Bronze Medal for 17U Breaker Girls in Ottawa

Playing in its second tournament of the indoor volleyball season, the Northumberland Breakers 17U girls team competed at the Ontario Volleyball Association’s Challenge Cup in Ottawa on Saturday.
Northumberland entered the tournament seeded second.
During pool play, the Breakers lost 25-17, 25-15 to the Maverick Trailblazers from Ottawa. They won their next game against Fusion Purple, also from Ottawa, 25-22, 25-22. The results from those two games had the Breakers tied for second place in their pool.
During the playoff round, the Breakers played their first game against the Peterborough Thunder and earned a decisive victory 25-9, 25-13 to advance to the semifinals.
In the semifinal game, they played the Maverick Outlaws from Ottawa. The Breakers lost the first set 26-24, won the second 25-10 and ultimately lost the tie-breaking third set 15-13.
Northumberland still had a shot at the bronze medal and faced the Northern Chill from Sudbury. The Breakers won the first set 25-21, lost the second 26-24 and won the deciding set 15-10.
