This is the 18U girls Breakers team. For most of them it is their last year of playing with the Breakers and they were thrilled to win a silver medal in the Championship Division in their new ‘home’ of the CCC last Saturday.
This is the second time they have medalled in Championship Division this season. They played very well to beat the Clarington Grizzlies in the crucial cross over match then came from behind to beat Pegasus from Kingston to earn a spot in the Gold Medal match.
In that match they were defeated by the Diamonds – a team from Toronto. The Diamonds were strong and there were scouts from Syracuse and Columbia University present.
The 18U girls will be attending the
VFX Winter Challenge Tournament
on March 3rd & 4th in Rochester, NY

In Breaker’s pool play, the girls fought valiantly against Ottawa Fusion, Phenix and the Orillia Suns. They opened up the day strongly against Ottawa Fusion but were not able to secure a win. Although they split against their next two opponents, they placed third in their pool. This pitted the girls against a tough opponent – Sudbury Northern Chill. The Breakers turned up the heat and defeated the Chill in an exciting match they won in straight sets.
At the same time, Fusion also won their cross over match. This meant the Breakers would have to defeat Fusion this time for a chance at the Gold Medal round. This was not to be but the Breakers left some gas in the tank to go on and defeat the Georgian Cubs from Barrie and clinch the bronze medal in a decisive manner – 25-19, 25-18.
This medal means that the girls have earned the right to continue to compete in the Championship division for the next OVA tournament.
