Northumberland Breakers 14u Girls volleyball team capture Silver

The Northumberland Breakers 14u girls volleyball team brought home the silver medal this past weekend at the McGregor Cup tournament,  the team gathered in Bowmanville for their second tournament of the year.

After tying for fifth place last month in the Provincial Cup tournament, the girls arrived with determination and their game faces on for what was going to be a long and exciting day of volleyball.

Their first game of the day was against the Maverick Rattlers from Ottawa.  The girls came out strong and were relentless, winning both games.  In round two,  Breaker girls faced the Clarington Grizzlies, once again winning both games.  Both offensively and defensively, the Breakers were on top of their game.

After pool play, the Breakers were in first place going into the playoffs where they faced DRVC Orange. The Breakers defeated them in two straight games 25-16 and 25-10, moving them on to the next round.

In the semi-finals they faced off against a very strong Aurora Storm Bolts team. The Breaker girls played a very tough match, but came up short losing to Aurora 17/25.  Thanks in part to some strong serving and relentlessness; the girls rallied back claiming both games 25/13 and 15/8 sending them to the gold medal match.

DRVC proved to be the match of the day for the Breakers, and  the girls came up short in both games,  losing 12/25 and 18/25.  The silver medal was a great way for the girls to come back from their previous tournament.  They all played hard and were excited to be a part of the gold medal match.  A special thanks to Max Dickinson- Assistant coach and Amanda Egan, player from the Breakers 18u girls team for some strong coaching from the sidelines.
