Coaches’ Code of Ethics and Conduct
Northumberland Breakers Volleyball Club Mission Statement
The Northumberland Breakers Volleyball Club is a competitive organization dedicated to advancing the personal and athletic development of youth through the pursuit of excellence in volleyball. We will offer a top quality club experience through intense training and competitive tournaments utilizing coaching staff that is knowledgeable, dedicated and caring.
Coaches’ Code of Ethics
The Northumberland Breakers Volleyball Club strongly advocates the Coaching Association of Canada’s Code of Ethics, which is as follows:
- Integrity: The Coaching Staff must act with integrity in performing all duties owed to athletes, the sport, other members of the coaching profession, and the public.
- Competence: The Coaching Staff must strive to be well prepared and current in order that all duties in the respective discipline are fulfilled with competence.
- Athlete’s Interest: The Coaching Staff must act in the best interest of the athlete’s development as a whole person.
- Respect for the Rules: The Coach must accept both the letter and the spirit of the rules that define and govern the sport.
- Respect for Officials: The Coaching Staff must accept both the letter and the spirit of the rules that define and govern the sport. As well, Coaches must accept the role of officials in providing judgement to ensure that competitions are conducted fairly and according to the established rules.
- Communication: The Coach is responsible for communicating important issues to the athletes, including playing time expectations and their role on the team.
- Responsibility to Other Coaches: Courtesy, good faith, and respect must characterize the Coaching Staff’s conduct toward other coaches.
- Personal Conduct: The Coaching Staff must maintain the highest standards of personal conduct and support the principles of fair play.
Code of Conduct for Athletes
Athletes will:
- Accept the Coaches’ decision in regards to playing time. Playing time is not guaranteed. Your coach will put six athletes on the court at any given time in order to reach your team’s goals.
- Arrive at practice and tournaments on time, ready to play.
- Follow and obey their signed participation agreement.
- Report any injuries and ailments immediately to coach.
- Remove jewelry, earrings etc. at practice or matches, knee pads and ankle supports are strongly advised.
- Treat the facility with respect and leave it the way you found it.
- Avoid the use of illegal drugs, tobacco or alcohol. These substances are prohibited at Club events.
- Conduct yourself in a respectful, responsible manner while representing the Club.
- Sportsmanship is required at all times. Yelling at coaches, teammates, officials or opposing players will not be tolerated. While at tournaments, players are encouraged to travel in a group. This is for team building and safety reasons.
Code of Conduct for Parents
- All parents are expected to participate in some fashion over the course of the season.
- Remember that all members of the Club are volunteers and support each other accordingly.
- Treat the facility with respect and leave it the way you found it.
